To remove the requirement that public authorities first offer expropriated property to the prior owner before selling the property to a third party if the property was taken to remove a threat to public health or safety and was held for less than 30 years. Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain seem to get most of the media attention this political season, but Ralph Nader held the spotlight Wednesday night in the LSU School of Music.

Nader, an Independent candidate for president, held a press conference and rally in the School of Music. He was welcomed by a cheering crowd and began chastising the way government is ran.

“The corporations are our government, and we’ve lost control of our money,” he said. “We have a weak democracy. We say ‘yes’ but corporations are saying ‘no’.”

Robert Savage, University student, said they attended the speech to hear Nader’s platform.

“Personally I’m an Obama man, but if any candidate came to campus, I would have still come out,” Savage said. “I wanted to see what he was all about.”

James Rodi, another student, said he is a big fan of Nader.

“I like how he seems to look out for middle- and lower-class Americans,” he said. “I think he can help us all out.”

Student Relief Fund

A relief fund has been established for undergraduate and graduate students who have experienced financial hardships or material damages due to Hurricane Gustav. To apply for this fund, students must complete the relief fund application and submit it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid.

Completed applications can be dropped off in the main lobby of Pleasant Hall, faxed to 225-578-6300 or emailed to financialaid@lsu.edu.

The deadline to submit this application is Friday, September 26. Appropriate documentation, as outlined on the application, that supports the hardship or material loss must be attached to the application. Award amounts will vary based on individual circumstances.

LSU to hold career fair Tuesday

LSU Career Services will sponsor a career expo Tuesday, Sept. 16 in the Coliseum from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Employers and recruiters from various companies and fields will be on hand. Students will have the opportunity to network with professionals and search for full-time or part-time jobs as well as internships and co-op positions.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in at least business casual attire. Business professional attire is recommended for those looking for jobs.

Tiger TV’s Orignal Programming UPDATED

Tiger TV will begin airing its fall programming tomorrow, September 11, 2008.

Newsbeat will air at 7:30 p.m. followed by Sports Showtime at 8 p.m.

Next week, the programs will air live with Newsbeat at 3 p.m. and Sports Showtime at 4:30 p.m.

LSU vs. North Texas in Tiger Stadium on Saturday

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva announced earlier today that Saturday’s football game between LSU and North Texas will be played in Tiger Stadium.

“It is apparent that the storm will move far enough to the west that we can play the game in Baton Rouge,” Alleva said in a news release. “Our prayers go out to our neighbors in Texas that they will stay safe.”

A North Texas official had confirmed to The Daily Reveille on Tuesday that the game would be played in Baton Rouge.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
